About Therapy

“The world is round and the place which may seem like the end may also be the beginning.”
– Ivy Baker Priest

177687881We all have stories – some good, some bad.

If you are looking for the perfect person for therapy, that would not be me. I am human and flawed by nature. We all have stuff. Your story and mine may not be the same. But trust me, I know stress, disappointment, fear, loss, hurt, just like you do. I also see the value of talking with someone who hears and gets it and the importance of someone who welcomes your story.

I value you and your story. In graduate school, my mentors told me I’m a natural listener with empathy and understanding, which is hard to teach. I use that gift to work with, help, and encourage my clients.

My passion, calling, and purpose are to help others find healing, discover their purpose, and use their gifts. I believe we all have a place and purpose in this world – sometimes, though, things in life go wrong, not the way we planned or hoped. We think – it wasn’t supposed to be this way.

Your story isn’t over yet. In our work together, we will continue your story as you hope for your future. You will discover that change is not only possible but probable. You will not just feel better; you will be better. During this process, you will find a new sense of wholeness and well-being you hoped for and worked hard to realize.

About Me

About CindyMy training focuses on counseling.

I graduated from the University of Texas at Tyler in 2014 with a Bachelor of Arts in English and Psychology. I received my Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling in 2018.

My prior work experience includes working in a drug and alcohol inpatient treatment facility for adolescents and young adults and a non-profit organization for domestic violence survivors. Before opening my private practice in my hometown, I worked in a multi-counselor group practice seeing individuals and couples.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Texas and have training and experience in the following modalities: Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Narrative Therapy, and Evidence-Based Treatment for Depression and Anxiety.

My life is full of those I love and the things I do.

While not in the office, I relish the time spent with my family (my husband, children, grandchildren, and extended family). I am a people person and enjoy the company of friends over dinner and celebrating life’s milestones.

The big question every year is, “Where are we going for vacation?” My husband and I love to travel. We are working on returning to the groove of packing a bag after the no-travel of 2020. We have a special place in the High Sierras we’ve visited almost yearly for 40 years. It never gets old.

Exercise, especially power walking in the outdoors, is a passion. Over the last two years, I also discovered the enormous benefits of gluten-free and grain-free cooking and eating, so I spend a lot of time trying new recipes. And a good book is never out of reach.

I like to call myself a church girl; I have always been and always will be. I love my church and sharing life with those there. My day begins with prayer, journaling, and Bible study. After that, I’m good to go.
